ブロックプリントの村サンガネル ジャイプールの染織文化
ジャイプールの周囲には、独特な染織技術を伝える村がいくつかあります。
そのうちのひとつ、サンガネルに行ってきました。
There are a few villages which have traditional and unique method for organic dyeing textiles around Jaipur.
I visited one of these, Sanganer.
はじめに訪れた工房。職人のアトールくん Artisan Atole
ブロックプリントと呼ばれる、木製（ときには金属製）のブロックを使い、100%オーガニックの布にこれまた100%植物性の染料で繰り返し色付けしていきます。
浮世絵のような感じです。見ていて理解できるのですが、一枚を仕上げるためにこれすごい手間と労力がかかります。
Block print, an art with wooden blocks (sometimes metal), to dye with 100% organic vegetable colour on 100% organic textile. Like Japanese Ukiyo-E. It takes so much time and labor.

サンガネル・プリントと呼ばれ300年以上の歴史があるそうですが、インドが独立した直後、藩主制度が崩れて後ろ盾がなくなりいちどは衰退したそうです。
70年代から復興、ノーケミカルな完全自然植物性の工程が見直され、徐々に盛り返しているところ。
Sanganeli Print has over 350 years history.
Hand block printing was patronised by the royal family by the time of India’s independence.
After that it fell into decay because of the loss of patrons, but from 70’s the merits of natural materials and the art of the 100% hand made patterns are being recognised once again.
二つ目に訪れた工房の職人マヤじいさん。この道40年。 Artisan Maya.
「植物性」と書きましたがこちらの人はみな「ベジタブル！！」と言ってます。
「野菜染め」のほうが正しいのか？と一瞬思いますが、「草木染め」ということでしょう。
100%オーガニック、自然由来の原料ばかりで鮮やかに布を染めていく。
「世界と人間と動物にとって悪い影響のあることはしない」というのがサンガネルの職人たちの矜持であり、だからこそ世界が再びサンガネル・プリントに注目し始めているのです。
